What Is Foster Care Fortnight, and Why Does It Matter?

Foster care fortnight is the UK’s largest annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness of fostering. Led by The Fostering Network, it brings together foster carers, organisations, and communities each May to celebrate the life-changing role that fostering plays, and to encourage more people to become carers!

Foster Care Fortnight is about 3 main things; raising awareness of fostering and its importance, recognising and celebrating carers, and inspiring new people to step forward and make a difference.

The 2026 theme, “This Is Fostering,” highlights the reality of day-to-day life in foster care. It aims to shine a light on the everyday experiences of fostering, from the small, meaningful moments that help build trust to the joy found in even the smallest breakthroughs.

Another key aim of the 2026 theme is to recognise and empower foster carers, who play such a vital role in supporting children who have experienced instability, trauma and loss. Foster carers do not just provide a home, they provide emotional support, consistency and care that can shape a young person’s future.

‘This Is Fostering’ highlights the challenges carers across the country face, including limited or inconsistent support, financial pressures, and feeling excluded from decisions made about the children in their care.

By combining celebration with honest reflection, Foster Care Fortnight helps raise awareness, empower carers, and drive meaningful change across the fostering community.

To all of our carers, we appreciate you!
